For much of my time working for Gore, spanning 25 years, I have been involved with commerce within Public and Private procurement, both in the UK and abroad. I currently engage with numerous NHS departments including Trusts, NHS Supply Chain, SCCL, NHS England, NICE and the HCSA. An advocate of personal development, I have a postgraduate Diploma in Marketing, a graduate of Health Economics from the University of York, Wharton (leadership) MIT Sloan and Wharton Business Schools (strategy) Hult Ashridge (coaching) and Harvard (negotiation). As well as commerce, I have worked in Learning and Development for Sales, Marketing and Leadership internationally. My current responsibilities include a focus on Value Strategy within the Gore Provider Solutions Team, customer relationships and engagement with healthcare policy for medical devices.

Head of Sustainable Procurement and Supply Chain

Alexandra is Head of Sustainable Procurement and Supply Chain at NHS England and NHS Improvement, where she leads the team responsible for delivering a net zero Carbon Footprint Plus for the NHS, which comprises over 60% of total emissions. In 2020, the NHS became the world’s first national health system to commit to become ‘carbon net zero’. Carbon Footprint Plus includes the NHS’ wider supply chain, aiming for an 80% reduction in emissions by 2036-2039 and Net Zero by 2045.

Following the release of the ‘Delivering a Net Zero Report’, Alexandra has led the development and implementation of activities to achieve net zero carbon, drive social value and eradicate modern slavery across the supply chain.

Before joining NHSEI, Alexandra led on the strategic and operational implementation of green plans for NHS organisations across the country, as well as some of the largest decarbonising infrastructure projects in the health sector enabled by procurement frameworks.

Alexandra holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Policy from Edinburgh University, she graduated with honours from Boston College in the USA, and has previously led the award-winning sustainability programme at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

Data Standards Engagement Manager

Frankie joined NHS Supply Chain in May 2023 to work in the In-Hospitals Services team. The team is responsible for rolling out best of breed inventory management systems into hospitals. In her role as Data Standards Engagement Manager Frankie is part of a small team of subject matter experts and is focussed on driving the implementation of global data standards to improve traceability of medical devices. Frankie is working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that the critical links between standards adoption, patient safety and managing NHS inventory are fully understood.

Previously, Frankie worked for the Scottish Government in the Medical Devices and Legislation Unit and jointly led the Unique Device Identifier programme. Frankie worked on transitioning this programme to NHS Scotland’s Scan for Safety programme and led the Supplier Engagement Workstream focussing on the adoption of global standards and building industry-wide relationships.

Prior to joining Scottish Government Frankie worked at the Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC) from 2014 and joined initially to work on the Department’s eProcurement programme. This subsequently became the award-winning national Scan4Safety programme, responsible for implementing GS1 and PEPPOL standards in the NHS. Frankie led on supplier engagement, working closely with trade associations and GS1 UK and with suppliers of medical and in-vitro diagnostic devices and medicines until 2019 when the programme was transitioned out of the Department.

Following the work on Scan4Safety Frankie was retained by DHSC to continue working with industry and to prepare suppliers of medical devices and clinical consumables for EU Exit to ensure continuity of care for patients across the UK.

Frankie works on a secondment basis from the North of England NHS Commercial Procurement Collaborative (NOE CPC) and has worked for them since its inception in April 2007 and before this Frankie worked at regional and trust level for various NHS organisations.

Caroline has more than 20 years’ experience in the MedTech industry and joined BD in April 2017. Her experience covers a strong background in supply chain operations and project management. In her current role as Commercial and Distribution Director, Caroline is responsible for developing an effective commercial and distribution strategy for BD in the UK & Ireland. She is responsible for the strategic relationship management with key national, regional and industry organizations and has long been engaging with all of these on the topic of sustainability.
